In the plays of sophocies, character and not predestined event is the focus of the drama
Abstract :rnGreek theatre was concerned with the struggle between man and the supernatural forces which seemed to govern his life. Sophocies (born 496 BC) was an Athenian dramatist who explored this struggle but who also enriched his characters to the extent that theybecame real and alive and the centre of interest. In this essay, the author contends that in the Theban plays, Sophocies makes his characters the focus of drama and not the events predestinet by the gods, although these play a significant role, in varying degrees, in the development of the dramatic element.
