English Adjectives as Found in Time Magazine
ABSTRACTrnrnThis study deals with the analysis of English Adjectives in Time Magazine. In this case, the problems of the study they are; (i) what kinds of adjectives, (ii) what functions of adjectives (iii) what percentage of kinds of adjective, (iv) what percentage of function of adjectives. To answer the writer analyzed the adjectives in Time magazine. In conducting research, first the writer read the sentences containing adjective and then she collected the data clessified them according to their kinds, and function of adjective. The result of analysis referring to the kinds of adjective, and function of adjective in Time Magazine in which found 160 adjectives. First, the writer found that there are seven kinds of adjective, they are; (i) general descriptive (67,5%), (ii) denoting size (14,37%), (iii) denoting shape (3,12%), (iv) denoting age (8,12%), (v) denoting color (1,87%), (vi) denoting provenance (2,5), and denoting material (2,5%). Second, the writer found two functions of adjective, they are attributive and predicative adjective. Attributive adjective is divided into two functions, they are pre-modifier (71,87%) and post-modifier (5%) and predicative is divided into two functions, they are subject complement (20%) and object complement (3,12%).
