Negation In English

ABSTRACTrnrnThis thesis deals with negation in English as found in The Holy Bible. As we know in English negations is indicated by not. There are some kinds of negation, not-negation, no-negation, conjunctions-negation, adverbs-negation, quantifiers-negation, affixes-negation and negative and affirmative distribution. The objective of the study is to find out the kinds of negation. In conducting this research, the writer went through these procedures; firstly the writer red some theories and picked one of the theories to analyze the data. Before analyze the data, the writer read the sentences containing negation in The Holy Bible specially in the gospel according to Matthew then she underlined all the sentences indicated negation and classified them into their kinds. In research of negation the writer refer to concept of negation proposed by Eugene J. Hall (1933). Having analyzed the negation, the writer found out that of the 190 data collected, there are 91 data belongs to not negation, 22 data belongs to non-negation, 19 data belongs to conjunction-negation, 28 data belong to adverbs-negation, 6 data belong to quantifiers-negation, 15 data belongs to affixes-negation, and 9 data belong to negative and affirmative distribution.
